Characteristics of Critical Thinking

 What is Critical Thinking?

The process of actively and skillfully conceiving, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating knowledge obtained from or created by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action, is known as critical thinking.

Characteristics of critical thinking

  1. Active listening
Good communicators are active listeners. Highly active listening is a prerequisite for critical thinking. Critical thinkers who actively listen are better able to organize the material they hear, comprehend its context or significance, identify unspoken assumptions, link concepts logically, and draw conclusions.

     2. Being a curiosity

One of the most important aspects of critical thinking is curiosity. According to research, our need for knowledge propels us to constantly seek out new information. This curiosity fosters critical thinking since in order to make wise judgments, we must continually increase our knowledge.

Because it motivates us to challenge our beliefs and mental constructs-the lenses through which we see the world curiosity also supports critical thinking. To overcome obstacles to critical thinking biases and misunderstandings, this is crucial. We will be more able to exercise critical thought while keeping an open mind if we challenge our assumptions and become genuinely interested in all sides of a situation.

      3. Being disciplined
  • Don't jump to conclusions or actions
  • Take time, acquire information, and know the facts
  • Use your own reasoning skills and, evaluate and reflect
  • Take time to stop and ask appropriate questions
  • Choose one of the sample questions to answer about a recent or a current task

      4. Being humble
Humility is the willingness to acknowledge one's shortcomings and see one's positive attributes in an accurate way. When you have humility, you are aware of your flaws, but also your strengths, and this is an important element in critical thinking and being willing to stretch and open your mind.
