How to understand those who can not be understood?

Before understanding others you must first understand yourself. Understanding and anticipating the effects of your own behavior on that of others is the definition of social competence. If this is the case, self-awareness is the key to finding a solution.

The book "Surrounded by Idiots" offers an accessible answer to the problem. Thomas Erikson discusses one of the most popular ways to distinguish between the many forms of human communication. It is a technique derived from the renowned DISA profiles, which define many behaviors and personalities using a base color scheme of red, yellow, green, and blue.



Red behavior (Dominant)

Reds have a strong sense of ambition and drive. They are also competitive and at ease taking the initiative. They prioritize efficiency and quickness, and they voice their thoughts. They fervently believe in the reality they are created.
Reds may be perceived as being tyrannical, autocratic, and dictatorial. They could not seem interested in talking about unimportant subjects and seem to be more engaged with what really matters. Frequently, this direct communication can come off as hostile.

Negative and Positive Aspects of Red Behavior

Negative - Pushy, Strict, Though, Dominant, Hard

Positive - Strong-willed, Independent, Ambitious, Determined, Effective


Yellow Behavior (Inspiring)

Yellows' defining Characteristics are their unwavering optimism and propensity to be the most prevalent behavior type. They put a lot of emphasis on establishing relationships and are very convincing. Yellows often display a lot of vigor and interest. 

Perception:  Yellows frequently engage in one-sided streams of unprocessed ideas during conversations. Yellows are notoriously bad listeners and frequently. focus talks on themselves. When it comes to tasks that call for prolonged periods of focus and thorough follow-up, they are frequently viewed as being careless. 

Negative and Positive Aspects of Yellow Behavior

Negative - Manipulative, Hot-tempered, Undisciplined, Counteractive, Egotistic

Positive - Inspiring, Stimulating, Enthusiastic, Dramatic, Outgoing


Green Behavior (Stable)

Greens don't stand out as much as other behavior categories do. They are affable, regraded great team players, peaceful, and tolerant of odd behavior. They frequently struggle to refuse and are less forthright and straightforward.

Once they make a choice, greens are thought to be stubborn. Through their indifference, they can also be regarded as enervation destroyers because of how they act. To maintain connections, greens could also use language less precisely and less firmly.

Negative - stubborn, Uncertain, Compliant, Dependent, Awkward

Positive - Supportive, Respectful, Obliging, Reliable, Pleasant


Blue Behavior ( Analytical)

Logical analysis, cool heads, risk-averseness, and, and attention to detail are the core characteristics of blues. They tend to be introverted and are more ready to focus on predictable jobs.

Blues are perceived as the ultimate perfectionists who dislike trivial chat and might come across as condescending. They may not trust others, which may be implied by their obsession with details and double-checking, which also causes them to make delayed decisions.

Negative and Positive Aspects of Blue Behavior

Negative - Critical, Indecisive, Narrow-minded, Fastidious, Moralizing

Positive - Diligent, Thoughtful, serious, Demanding, Methodical
